In My Mailbox: July 2011

Monday, August 01, 2011

It's been a lean month - although this may be in part because I did my June IMM so late in the month. I've been thinking lately, that honestly, I really need to read more of my own books. It's just soooo haaaaaard because there are so many freeeeee boooooks at the library! I've got a disease.

Borrowed from the library:
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Last Time I Saw Paris by Lynne Sheene
One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banherjee Divakaruni
Party Princess by Meg Cabot
The Princess Present by Meg Cabot

Purchased:
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
Yoga in Bed by Naomi Sophia Call (No, this is not dirty... it is about stretches you can do in the morning before you get up!)

Won:
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

NetGalley:
The Artist of Disappearance by Anita Desai

PS: Thanks, Story Siren, for hosting.

  1. The Grapes of Wrath is my favorite book. Period. The End. John Steinbeck is my all-time favorite. So I'm a teensy bit jealous right now that you're finding time to read one that I love so much!!!! I hope you're enjoying it as much as I do. Not everyone does.

  2. Asheley - I haven't read it before but East of Eden is one of my favorites so I am glad that I'm finally reading it! I'm only about 50 pages in but every time I read Steinbeck I fall in love with his writing all over again. Have you read The Winter of Our Discontent? That is the last Steinbeck I read and it was amazing. Bahaha I love that we are fangirly over Steinbeck.

  3. I have never read East of Eden or The Winter of Our Discontent (embarrassment) but I've read almost all of the shorter ones. Some of my absolute, all-time favorites are The Pastures of Heaven, The Moon is Down, and Cannery Row. Oh, and The Pearl. Each were a different and had different things about them that I loved so much. But The Grapes of Wrath just really stuck with me, perhaps because that was the first Steinbeck that I ever read.

  4. I've only read a few of the short ones - Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row, and the Pearl. I didn't care for the Pearl, but I read it in high school and was just turned off by the death and despair of it. I think the best thing about Steinbeck is his writing. I want to highlight half of GOW because he describes things and people so perfectly.

  7. Haha I have the same problem. Tons of my own books and yet I still hoard stacks from the library thinking I'll get to them in time.

Yoga in Bed sounds really cool. I'll have to look into that. :)
