In My Mailbox - March 2011

Monday, April 04, 2011

This month, I've decided to try a different meme. The Story Siren hosts a meme where you can basically type your mailbox post at any time and link to it the following Sunday. While I am not strictly a YA blogger, I have lately seen other eclectic bloggers post with this meme, so I wanted to try it out. Many bloggers actually post their IMM with a vlog, which I might try next time. I've also decided to post an IMM the first Monday of every month. I don't get enough books a week to have a substantial weekly post, but I do want to keep track of new acquisitions. I am also going to divide my IMM posts into categories each time I post: Borrowed from the library, Gifted, Purchased, Won, NetGalley, and ARCs. So without further ado...

Borrowed From the Library

Revolution by Jennifer Donelly - I have been on hold for this book for months, and it finally came in. I'm reading it right now and really enjoying it so far.

Trickster's Queen by Tamora Pierce - The sequel to Trickster's Choice, the book on tape that I just finished. Trickster's Choice is possibly my favorite Tamora Pierce of all time, which is something serious because I LOVE her. Looking forward to listening to this one as well.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - I have also been on hold for this one for quite a while, and am looking forward to reading it, especially if it's anywhere near as emotionally charged as Delirium.

Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood - This is for the Birth Year Challenge. I haven't ever read a book by Atwood (I know...) so I am excited to delve into her literature with this book. I have two Atwood novels on my TBR list for this year, and another on my shelf, so I'm looking forward to getting started.

Gifted

I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak - At the most epic of book signings, my husband bought me this book for an early graduation present. He is now reading it, but that's okay because I think it's attractive when he reads. :)

Purchased

60 Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong by Jean-Benoit Nadeau and Julie Barlow - I bought this because of my France project. When I was on my study abroad, the more advanced culture class had to read this book, so I turned to it when I wanted a resource to start investigating the culture of the people.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - I have checked this book out of the library at least three times, so I figured it was about time for me to buy my own copy.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls - My book club friends have been raving about this one for months, so when I needed a second book for a buy one get one half off deal at Borders (the other was a gift for my sis-in-law), I knew I wanted this one.

Ms. Hempel Chronicles by Sarah Shun-lien Bynum - I can't remember where, but I read a review of this one and knew I just had to read it.

Won

The Secret Lives of Dresses by Erin McKean - Won in a giveaway on Dollycas's Thoughts.

Toads and Diamonds by Heather Tomlinson - I love Indian books and I love spinoff fairy-tales, so this should be fantastic for me. Won from GoodReads First Reads.

NetGalley

Behind the Mask by David Gelber, MD - Because I am going into the medical field, I was intrigued by this nonfiction book about surgeons.

Infernal Devices by K.W. Jeter - STEAMPUNK!

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe Schreiber - The title sounds very immature, and so does the premise of the book. But I think it might be my kind of immature.

And no ARCs this month, other than those I've won or received from NetGalley. (I don't usually get those, but wanted to make it a category just in case). I'm excited for this month - my last month of inactivity before the madness of nursing school starts!

  2. I love Margaret Atwood, so much! I've never read Cat's Eye, but it does sound really good. My favorite Atwood, so far, is The Blind Assassin. Behind the Mask sounds like it could be really good too.

  3. I haven't read that Atwood yet. I've read The Handmaid's Tale and Oryx & Crake... THT was awesome, O&C was so-so... I guess I need to read more Atwood to decide exactly how I feel about her. Hope Cat's Eye is good!

  4. Lots of good stuff this week. Delirium was awesome. I haven't read Before I Fall but I heard many bloggers say it was BETTER than so I bet you'll love it!
