Book Blogger Hop: Money to spend

Book Blogger Hop

This week's Book Blogger Hop, hosted by Crazy-for-Books, asks the question,

If I gave you $80 and sent you into a bookshop right now, what would be in your basket when you finally staggered to the till?

Well, I actually have over $80 in gift cards right now. However, I tend to be really conscientious with my book buying. I don't like to rush out and spend it all at once - I like to stretch it out over a few months. I'm also paranoid about buying books that I don't know much about because I don't like books with graphic sex or a lot of profanity and don't want to own those books. With that said, if I was just going to haphazardly buy a bunch of books with $80, here's what I would come up with:

The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott by Kelly O'Connor McNees
The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Undiscovered Country by Lin Enger
Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda by Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and various others
The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris by David McCullough (not out yet, boo)

That leaves me 3.14 left... which would probably have to cover tax. Now I'm tempted to go out and really use my gift certificate. Must... restrain... self!

What would you buy if you could go on a wild and crazy book buying spree?

  1. Hi, just dropping on by on the hop. You're very restrained, I'd never have a gift voucher sitting around for long for books! My making a list is pointless, I get distracted and forget what I went in for. Have a great weekend.

  2. Good list of books....only have heard of one...will need to check the others out.....this question definitely adds to toppling TBR stacks.

Stop by my blog if you like to see my answer, my reviews and Scotland photos.

  3. Such restraint! I regularly end up spending about $120 on books because I decide to 'buy a couple of books' and then can't choose which and end up buying them all! I'm a new follower - come see what I chose...

  4. First, SO glad you're getting Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda. It's beautiful and so sad.

Second, I loved Undiscovered Country. I thought he told the story very well and his writing was just gorgeous. I'm in a book club out here and Peace Like A River is our March book, which is always happy.

I would purchase To Kill A Mockingbird (so sad that I don't have my own copy), The Fountainhead, This Side of Paradise, and probably some of the Marry Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. Have you read those? They're so fun.

  5. Thanks everyone for stopping by! I think I commented back on everyone's blog except Allison, so...

@Allison - I haven't bought it yet but I definitely want to read it soon! I might end up just getting it from the library because Amazon had it on backorder. I LOVE This Side of Paradise and The Fountainhead. I haven't read the King books but I'll have to look into them!
