This week's question is:

"When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?"

I almost always finish the books I read. I may take a break from them if I'm not very interested and read something that grabs my attention for a while before returning to the less interesting book. The main thing that will keep me from finishing a book is if it is full of sex scenes or foul language. I like to feel uplifted by what I read, not guilty!

Feel free to comment with your own thoughts or post a link to your book blog!

  1. Hopping by to visit and follow! Good points about wanting to read uplifting fiction. If something's grossing me out or depressing me, I'm usually not going to wade through it 'til the end. :-)

  3. I've stopped over (and am following you!) from the blog hop. First of all, your blog is gorgeous. I'm going to explore content in a moment, but at a glance it looks fascinating (I'm particularly taken with the birth year challenge...my birth year is somewhat, ah, earlier than yours, and how interesting that would be).

My answer to the question of the week is here.

    I'll be stopping by frequently.

  4. Just hopping by...and now I'm following you.

I haven't read anything by L. M Montgomery except the Anne of Green Gables series (which I want to reread, since it's been many years); but I love the gorgeous cover on the book in your sidebar.

  6. Glad to have found you via the Hop. I'm with you - two of the big reasons I won't keep reading a book are graphic sex scenes and lots of foul language. Especially if the writing's not that great to begin with.

    Have a great weekend!

  8. Hi, visiting you on the Hop! I love the story behind your nom de plume - I haven't read The Story Girl (I don't think I've even heard of it before, sad to say!) but I'm certainly curious about it now! :)

I think we have similar reading habits, as far as finishing books goes - I always try to finish a book too, even if it takes me months or years! For me though swear words and bed sports don't put me off - in fact sometimes sex scenes can be a books only redeeming feature! (and sometimes I wish a book HAD a sex scene, liven things up a bit!) For me, it's bad writing or simply a boring story that makes me struggle...

  9. I find when it comes to sex and violence, there really has to be some sort of context for it that makes sense, even if I still don't like it... that context HAS to be there. It's actually the reason I read a lot of YA, no sex or violence, or very mild if there is any... but still a great story!
