Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books of 2011

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

This week's Top Ten Tuesday {hosted by The Broke and The Bookish} is the top ten books of 2011. I am not rating the top ten books I read that were published in 2011, but the top ten that I read in 2011.

10. Nevermore by Kelly Creagh -- This book blew my mind. I was completely obsessed and emotionally invested in an unhealthy way, Twilight-style.

9. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield -- The writing was gorgeous and the story was absolutely captivating.

8. Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly -- If a book is about France, I will love it. If a book is by Jennifer Donnelly, I will love it. Thus, love.

7. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor -- This book just absolutely captivated me. I am dying until the sequel comes out.

6. Delirium by Lauren Oliver -- This is another book that just gave me an absolutely knee-jerk emotional reaction.

5. The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan -- The unique format and the gorgeous writing of this small volume make it a favorite of the year.

4. Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier -- I absolutely wish I'd read this book in high school. I think it is an important story about self-discovery and growing up.

3. I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak -- Markus Zusak can write pretty much anything and I will love it. This story is so powerful and had me sobbing multiple times on public transportation.

2. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton -- Another gut jerk reaction... are you noticing a pattern? This book was sheer, beautiful devastation. Also, it ended in France.

1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern -- This story was really magical for me, and the writing was inspiring. I've heard people cal it over-hyped, but I thought this story was worth every word of praise.

  1. We've got two books in common in our Top Ten list (mine will post in 2012, not as part of Top Ten Tuesday): Revolution, which was my favorite YA novel this year, and The Night Circus, which was my favorite (not necessarily the best) book I read this year.

  3. I'm so happy to see The Night Circus, Smoke & Bone, and The Lover's Dictionary on your list - they're all on my list too!

I finally broke down and bought Delirium and Nevermore - I've heard so much about them. Hoping I'll get to them soon. And I plan to read I Am The Messenger for a challenge this year, so I'll likely have that on my list next year.

Hope you've had a lovely holiday Lorren!!!

  5. I haven't heard of a lot of these, but Daughter of Smoke and Bone is on my list too :)
Lauren Oliver is great, if you haven't read Before I Fall yet you should, it's incredible.
I really want to read The Night Circus and Nevermore!

  10. The Lover's Dictionary is another book that didn't quite make my list but that I really enjoyed this year. It was such a good, bookish year.

  11. Oooh, lots of excellent books to add to my wishlist, sounds like! I've had Delirium in my TBR for a long time and recognize many of the other books you've mentioned here. Nevermore intrigues me because I definitely went through a Twilight thing years back. Hmm . . .

  12. @As the Crowe Flies -- I like what you say about your favorite not being the same as the best. I think I usually rate things based on how much I liked them, but when I review I talk about their individual merits in a more objective way.

@Helen's Book Blog -- I hope you enjoy them! I thought they were fabulous :)

@Asheley -- OOH I am so excited to see what you think of those books! I hope you like them!

@Amanda -- I loved your Reveur costume from Halloween this year!

@Jessi (Geo) -- I read Before I Fall this year, too! I didn't like it as much as Delirium but it was definitely a powerful story.

@Jenni Elyse -- I did as well. It was really unique.

@Tanya Patrice -- Hooray for good books! :)

@Sara of the Page Sage -- It is such a cute and moving story -- hope you love it!

@Jillian -- Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see what you have to say about it. I am dying for your posts about it now! Haha.

@LBC -- I think blogging has made this my best bookish year ever! I never knew about new releases before.

@Meg -- Nevermore is definitely a guilty pleasure, but with an emphasis on the pleasure. I think you would enjoy it, even if it wouldn't be a five star read for everyone.
